Our flight to NZ departs tonight at 9:00 pm leaving us some time to spend in San Francisco prior to returning the rental car. We spent a bit of time in the morning making a couple of more bookings for our trip to the South Island of NZ as accommodation is a bit sparse in some of the more remote regions. At 11:00 we said goodbye to Jim & Sharon and made our way into San Francisco.
We had to stop for an scenic view of the Golden Gate Bridge and the city.
We parked at the Golden Gate Park.
We started walking uphill through the city to some fabulous stairways decorated with inlaid tiles. These are a fairly new undertaking by some local artists.
After climbing a few hundred steps we had a great panoramic view of the city.
It was getting near rush hour so we decided to head toward the airport to ensure we got checked in with minimal stress. We were in lots of time and managed to spend some time chilling out in the departure lounge prior to our flight.
Our flight got away on time. Air New Zealand was OK but probably not the most comfortable seats to try to sleep in. It wasn’t helped by the lady behind me that seemed to have a need to talk continually to her husband throughout the night. I thought the oxygen masks may deploy because she sucked all of the oxygen out of the plane. I finally got some sleep and awoke shortly before dawn, about an hour out of Auckland.
Clearing customs took about 90 minutes because we got hauled into secondary because we had hiking boots and they wanted to inspect them for bio hazards.
We finally got out of the airport and arrived at our hotel at around 10:00 and were able to drop our bags and go exploring downtown Auckland.
